We’re excited to announce the completion of a 50.4 kW solar installation at 599 Clement Avenue in Kelowna! This custom system for Anagram Properties features 126 Hanwha solar panels, Fronius string inverters, and a ballasted racking design tailored to the building’s structural needs. It’s been a pleasure working on this project and helping bring more clean energy to the Okanagan!
Project Overview
Anagram Properties approached Riverside Energy Systems to design and install a custom solar photovoltaic (PV) system for their multi-use development at 599 Clement Avenue in the heart of Kelowna. With a commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, the goal was to offset a significant portion of the building’s electrical load while complying with FortisBC’s net metering limits.
System Specs:
- Total System Size: 50.4 kW DC
- Solar Modules: 126 x 400W Hanwha Q.PEAK DUO panels
- Inverters: 3 x 15kW Fronius Symo string inverters (45 kW AC total capacity)
- Racking System: TerraGen TGR ballasted racking, engineered to align with trusses at 48” spacing (as specified by ROV Engineering)
- Monitoring: Integrated web-based performance monitoring via rooftop internet connection
Challenges & Solutions
- Structural Constraints: The ballasted racking system was chosen and custom-aligned to avoid unnecessary loading outside structural tolerances.
- Roof Membrane Sensitivity: Careful planning ensured minimal wear from racking contact points.
- Utility Limitations: The design was optimized to meet FortisBC’s net metering cap while maximizing return on investment.
Impact
This installation will significantly reduce Anagram Properties’ annual electricity costs and carbon footprint while showcasing their commitment to green building practices.
Outcome
This project exemplifies how thoughtful design and collaboration can lead to sustainable infrastructure in growing urban centres. Riverside Energy Systems is proud to support Anagram Properties in their clean energy goals.
